“Back to 80s” Exhibition
“Back to 80s” Exhibition
Many people think that the 80s is a glorious era of Hong Kong due to the prosperous and comfort lives, which stimulated the pop culture and its consumption. Movies, Cantopop, TV drama series, comic & magazines, even toys, which were vitally important to that generation, reached their height of popularity in the 80s and exported to the Chinese communities around the world successfully.
"Back to 80s" Exhibition is an extension of the "Step Out Blue House" Charitable City Orienteering Competition for Heritage Conservation this year. Old objects, e.g. comics, advertisements, records, and video games, are collected to showcase how Hong Kong pop culture gained large followings in Chinese communities worldwide in four aspects, visual, auditory, playing and cuisine. The appeal to 80s doesn’t only for collective memories, but to let us know what to do to next to let our culture be transformed in the future.
